A multi-award-winning film, which is the top grosser based on World War two had captured the attention of the fans who were riveted to the screen throughout the movie and long after. It was the most successful film of World War Two ever shot and was nominated for 13 Oscars – and now it is being broadcast on the BBC.
It is on BBC tonight, a biographical thriller Oppenheimer with Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr in the big ensemble of the A-list Hollywood names.
Murphy appears with the help of Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Josh Hartnett, Casey Affleck, Kenneth Branagh and Rami Malek as American theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, who made one of the first steps towards the creation of the first nuclear weapons. The film, which was filmed during World War Two, was a huge critical and commercial phenomenon at the time of its debut and received many high-profile awards. The fans consider it a masterpiece in cinematography that pulls you by heart and mind.
The movie traces the life of Oppenheimer as he obtains a PhD, tours and establishes a quantum physics department at a research University in California. There are members of the communist party, such as psychologist Jean Tatlock (Pugh), with whom he maintains a long and passionate affair before getting married to biologist Kitty Pending (Blunt).
Oppenheimer has a moral dilemma of creating a weapon of mass destruction and is further traumatised when he is recognised as a hero after the US drops two bombs on Japan and kills thousands of innocent people.
Written and directed by Christopher Nolan, the movie features Murphy as a fictionalised portrayal of theoretical physicist J Robert Oppenheimer, and most of the film is based on his role in the Manhattan Project in the 1940s. First shown in theatres- with Barbie, of course- in. In 2023, you can now see Nolan in his grandiose role as Oppenheimer, premiering at 9 pm on BBC Two. Oppenheimer was an unprecedented box office hit as it earned more than $975 million on a global scale, making it the highest-grossing biopic and biggest-grossing film ever released during World War Two.
It has won a staggering seven awards in the 96th Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director (Nolan), Best Actor (Murphy) and Best Supporting Actor (Downey Jr).
On Rotten Tomatoes, the historical thriller has an impressive approval rating of 93% based on 513 reviews, and the audience score is also at a very high 91% based on more than 100,000 ratings. Oppenheimer will premiere on BBC Two at 9 pm before making its debut on BBC iPlayer.
