A weather warning has been issued by forecasters as Kent prepares for more than half a month’s worth of rain in the next few hours. In some locations, up to 40 mm of rain is expected. A yellow weather warning was issued by the Met Office for the entire country of Kent. It went into effect at 9 a.m. and has since been extended until 9 p.m.
There have also been reports of train service delays and potential lightning strike damage to properties. All of Kent is under a yellow weather warning from 7 a.m to 7 p.m. today, July 6, according to the Met Office.
In order to account for the possibility of more widespread thunderstorms throughout, the area has also been explained farther to the south and west.
Additional risks, according to forecasters, might include lightning, hail, and strong, gusty winds. According to statistics, there was 55.4 mm of rain in June of last year and 54 8 mm the year before.
According to a Mey Office statement: “Frequently heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected for much of Saturday before fading from the west during the mid to late afternoon.
“10 to 15 mm of rain could fall in less than an hour, whilst some places could see 30 to 40 mm of rain over several hours from the successive showers and thunderstorms.”
The Met Office has advised people to think about if flash flooding is a possibility where they are. If so, they ought to think about making an emergency flood kit and a flood strategy.
“Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary,” it says.
“People cope better with power cuts when they have prepared for them in advance.
“It’s easy to do; consider gathering torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items.
“If you find yourself outside and hear thunder, protect yourself by finding a safe enclosed shelter, such as a car.
“Do not shelter under or near trees, or other structures which may be struck by lightning. If you are on an elevated area, move to lower ground.”
Homeowners have been advised by the weather forecaster to think about whether they are susceptible to flash flooding. If so, they ought to think about making an emergency flood kit and a flood strategy. Make sure you have flashlights, batteries, a cell phone power pack, and other necessary supplies on hand in case of a power outage.
